The Maquettes began as an experiment, but quickly became something more intimate, a way for me to process memory through form. I was thinking about the carved language of Akan stools, how they hold meaning beyond their shape, how they carry stories, presence, and power in silence.

I approached these small forms as sketches of thought, as studies in structure, and conduits for memory. I let instinct guide my hands and choices. I wasn’t trying to replicate anything. I was trying to remember what I’ve been told, what I’ve seen, what I feel, but can’t quite name.

Each piece became a narrative, shaped by fragments of culture, family, and the things I carry internally. In their scale and simplicity, they reminded me that storytelling doesn’t always need words. Sometimes, the gesture or memento is enough. Sometimes, the form is the memory.
