Interlocking is a reflection on the structures we create, both visible and invisible, to navigate our relationships. The interlocking forms serve as a metaphor for the ways we construct internal and external frameworks: how we support ourselves, how we rely on others, and how those systems shift under pressure.

Each form is held in place by the next symmetrical and deliberately balanced. The tension between pieces reflects the quiet negotiations that happen in closeness: effort, compromise, dependency, resistance. I wanted the work to feel honest about that fragility, how easy it is for a system to come undone, and how much intention it takes to hold it together.

I chose Black Limba for its natural variation, the contrast of light and dark, smooth and unpredictable grain to echo the emotional textures within the work. The wood carries its own history, its own character, which adds depth to the visual and conceptual weight of the piece.

Interlocking asks what it means to build and be built by relationships, the ones we form with others, and the ones we negotiate within ourselves.
