Conversations is a sculptural meditation on the complexities of relationships, inspired by my evolving connection with my mother. The paired forms reflect one another, in similarity and difference, embodying a quiet duality that speaks to the nuances of intimacy and independence, connection and distance.
Through the interplay of materials and mirrored structure, the work captures the subtle, often unspoken dynamics that shape close relationships including the comfort of closeness and the ache of separation. Using mahogany and ash, I chose contrasting woods to emphasize this emotional dialogue (both durable, both beautiful, but distinctly different in tone and grain.)
Conversations invites viewers to consider the emotional architecture of their own relationships, what is said, what is withheld, and what exists in the space between.
